October NAC: Olympia’s fencers bring home best results in the New England Division, over three events, both epee and foil
October NAC has revealed to be one of the highest level competitions, where Olympians, world cups and Pan Am medalists, top world ranking fencers, faced each other.
It was a tough competition but a great fencing experience for everyone!
Our club brought to competition as many as twelve nationally ranked fencers, boys and girls, epee and foil, and we’re happy to applaud the courageous participation of two of our beginner adults, also fencing dads, David Adamian and Felipe Santos. They’ll definitely have some interesting stories to tell to their kids, back home!
Here are our best results:
Cadet Women’s Epee
Emily Vermeule obtained the best result of the New England Division – 9th place, in an event with 89 participants.
Emily went undefeated, 15-8 and 13-11, to have lost for top 8 by one touch. 
Based on her results, Emily went up on the national points list to number 12th, best rank in the New England Division.
Wish her good luck as she’s leaving tomorrow for the Cadets World Cup, in Laupheim, Germany, a competition of 180 best women fencers in the world, fourteen of whom are Americans.
Cadet Men’s Epee
Robert Hondor placed 12th out of 150 participants, losing for top 8 to the winner of the competition.
Based on his earned national points, Robert is now qualified for two world cups: the Cadet Circuit in Klagenfurt, Austria, (October 20/30, 2016) and Grenoble, France, November 26/27.
In Div I Women’s Epee, our Hungarian guest, Lilla Csoknyai, placed 60th out of 148, during a competition which revealed many 
surprises!
This was Lilla’s first competition in the USA, where the best women’s fencers in the country and best ranked in the world, top athletes, have participated – a great fencing experience!
Div ll Men’s Foil, Paul Gaudet and Adam Yang made both top 62 (44 and, respectively, 50th) out of 175 fencers, these happening to be the best results in the New England Division.
Cristina Gordet, 7th place, 2016 Veterans World Championships, Stralsund, Germany!
Daniel’s student for over six years, Cristina is the 2013 World Bronze medalist and 2013, 2014, 2015 National Champion, among other national and international titles obtained over the past years.
Although recently moved to Florida, Cristina’s passion for fencing is still alive and she’s keeping up a great profile even if her current location doesn’t offer as much, in matters of fencing training, as she had back in Cambridge.
Her birthday is coming up soon, on November 4th – let’s wish her a very Happy Birthday and great achievements ahead!
