Silver Medal at the 16th NYAC Highschool Invitational
The 16th annual High School Invitational has been held at the prestigious New York Athletic Club, first week of June, in New York.
Best twelve boys and girls high schoolers in the country are invited to this exclusive competition each year, in one of the oldest and most historical athletic clubs.
This year, our club was honored to have three epeeists on the invitees list: Robert Hondor, Emily Vermeule and Jonas Hansen (who didn’t fence due to a health incident, he recovered during the day and is ok now).
Parents and fencers who already knew each other from many national and international events, have been reunited for a great day of fencing and fun in one of New York’s most charming neighborhoods, Manhattan.
The competition was presided by Mr. Michael Aufrichtig, Chairman of the New York Athletic Club Fencing program and Head Men and Women’s Fencing Coach at Columbia, since 2011.
In the Men’s event, Robert Hondor wins the Silver.
He placed 4th in the pools, with six victories, and goes undefeated through direct eliminations (15-13 with Hunter Candreva and 15-6 with Ryan Griffits).
He fenced NYAC’s Teddy Lombardo for the title, with the final score 15-13.
Emily Vermeule places 8th, in the Women’s event.
