NCAA Champions, Silver, and Bronze medals two years in a row!!
Congratulations to Olympia’s Alumni, Gabriel Feinberg, and Emily Vermeule, for their amazing performance at the 2022 NCAA Championships!!
Gabriel is the new 2022 NCAA Men’s Épée Champion, and Emily, NCAA National Runner-Up
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Fencing Championships take place every year in March, to crown the Men’s and Women’s champions, in the three weapons, Épée, Foil, and Sabre.
After a year of hard training and meets, culminating with the Fencing Regionals for NCAA qualifications, two of each, men’s and women’s, are selected to move forward to the big day, the NCAA Fencing Championships.
Hosted by the University of Notre Dame at the Castellan Family Fencing Center in Notre Dame, Indiana, on March 24- 27, 2022, 144 Athletes from 27 colleges and universities have fought for the title over four long days of fencing.
Among these amazing athletes, three former Olympia students have been selected to represent their colleges:
Emily Vermeule and Jonas Hansen, representing Harvard University, and Gabriel Feinberg, Ohio State University.
We are extremely proud to announce that Gabriel is the new NCAA Men’s Épée Champion, while Emily is the National runner-up in the Women’s Épée event!!
Emily Vermeule started fencing at nine years old, and she is training with coach Daniel Hondor since 2012.
Emily was the youngest fencer ever in the New England Division to earn her A rating, at only 14 years old.
She was the only US woman épéeist to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October 2018, where she took fifth place in the individual events, and Bronze with the US Team.

- Silver medalist, Junior Women’s Epee, 2018 Summer Nationals
- Silver medalist, Junior Women’s Épée, 2017 Summer Nationals
- National Champion 2016, Y14 Women’s Épée.
- Pomme De Terre Champion, 2016, Senior Women’s Épée.
Gabriel Feinberg started fencing at six years old and training with Coach Daniel for the past twelve years.
Some of Gabriel’s best results are:
1. Junior Men’s Épée Champion, 2021 Summer National
2. Gold, Div 1 Men’s Épée, 2021 April NAC, Fort Worth, TX
3. 8th place at the 2019 Cadet World Cup, Grenoble, FR.
An Ohio State 2022 college freshman, Gabriel is currently ranked number two in the USA and 63rd in the world, in Junior Men’s Épée (5th best international ranking among USA fencers).
Gabriel and Emily follow in the steps of Robert Hondor, Olympia’s first NCAA All-American, who won a Bronze medal in the Men’s Épée in 2021.
